Fort Napoleon

View of Fort Napoleon (show large version)

In 1810, Napoleon, under a growing threat from England, commissioned a fort to be built in Oostende. Four years later, its completion coincided with the fall of Napoleon’s empire. Surrounded by a supporting wall eight metres high and a dry moat divided into five sections, the pentagonal fort was ready to accommodate the troops. Visitors are welcome to come to the monumental fort and learn about its history. It also has areas for numerous cultural programmes and teambuilding activities. The newly renovated fort offers facilities for seminars, conferences, product launches, family days and other corporate events. Moreover, there is a bistro and a restaurant where visitors can relax.
