The participants reach the fort using their own transport or in special buses, and are ushered into the old part of Fort Napoleon. As they are being led into the inner courtyard, they are suddenly surprised to discover that there is no way out of the Fort. In the courtyard the participants are given the mandatory black and white prison clothing and a gruff prison governor makes it very clear to them what the prison rules are. He divides them up into groups and allocates a cell plus guard to each.
Of course, the prison governor keeps a close eye on things and watches closely to ensure that all the prisoners cooperate fully. Indeed, there is a growing desire to escape. According to a fixed programme, the prisoners take turns working in different sections of the Fort: the kitchens, the woodwork department, the forge, the sports hall, the library, the laundry and the refectory. In each section they have to fulfil certain tasks. Outside the fort, recreational beach programmes with a series of dynamic activities are available: these include kiting, zodiac, catamarans, building sandcastles, remote control 4x4 vehicles, archery and crossbows The whole event can be concluded with a banquet on the upper terrace of the Fort with its spectacular views of Oostende and the sea.
Due to renovation works the Fort Napoleon is closed from September 2018 until summer 2019.
