Tasteful Heritage

Ostend is a city with a more than rich history. This walk takes you tastefully along a selection of beautiful heritage sites.

In a nutshell, you will discover a number of eye-catching buildings where you can also fortify the inner man. Nowhere are the shrimps and fish fresher than in Ostend. These restaurants or cafés offer visitors high-quality and authentic Ostend specialities. James Ensor walk with museum visit

This walk focuses on James Ensor, Ostend's most famous artist. You'll follow his life and work via his favourite places in the city centre. Moreover you'll get to know the renovated James Ensor House and brand new experience centre.

Royal walk

This walk deals with the influence of the Belgian royal family on the growth and fame of the seaside resort of Ostend. Ingredients are a.o. urbanism & architecture, domestic and foreign politics, amorous & anecdotal references.
The walk has two possible routes: the inner city or the west.

Leopoldpark walk

Discover the Leopold Park that was laid out in 1860 on the city's old fortifications. The beautiful music kiosk was inaugurated in 1885. Since 1963, the world-famous flower clock has also been located.

Walk "Oosteroever"

On the east side of the harbour channel around the 'Lange Nelle' lighthouse in Ostend, there is a separate little world to discover.

Fishing boats are moored in the fishing dock. Participants learn a lot of facts about fishing, fishing techniques, quotas, types of fish and the fish trade. You will also learn more about the offshore activities for the wind farms at sea.

Urban development is also discussed.

Ostend Street Art

Discover the gigantic murals and interventions in the city centre. All these impressive works are on permanent display.
The walk starts at the Tourist Office and via the Achturenplein and Koninginnelaan the guide reaches the end point, the Ostend Town Hall.

City centre walk

On and within the route of Ostend's vanished city walls, you will become acquainted with the heart of a modern seaside town that, in addition to its tourist and service infrastructure, also presents its martial and royal past. That heart beats between the Albert I Promenade, the Visserskaai, the Vindictivelaan and the Hendrik Serruyslaan.

Beach and nature walk

The beach offers much more than just sand. It is a living landscape, with ebb and flow, a special biotope with a surprising amount of fauna and flora.

Fishermen’s quay walk

A walk near the westside of the harbour channel with historical and current witnesses (references). Fascinating aspects of the age-old harbour and fishing activities: coastal vessels, the former Pilot's building, the remaining Western Jetty, the Mercator Marina and the former Island trawler Amandine.

Lighthouse and fish market walk

On the east side of the harbour channel around the 'Lange Nelle' lighthouse in Ostend, there is a separate little world to discover.
